Filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the lawsuit seeks to prevent ICE and the Department of Homeland Security from enforcing the policy, arguing it violates the Administrative Procedure Act.

International students will be prohibited from staying in the United States if taking an entirely online course load at their university this fall, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced on Monday. 

Penn also spends money on cash grants to University City and the School District of Philadelphia, according to the University's most recent Form 990 from the 2018 fiscal year.

Although the email vowed the statue would be removed from campus, it contained no mention of when it would be removed or whether it would be replaced with another figure.

Penn Provost Wendell Pritchett made the announcement on Tuesday that Mamta Motwani Accapadi will replace Valarie Swain-Cade McCoullum as Penn’s new VPUL on Aug. 17. Accapadi will arrive to Penn with committed to goals of inclusion, community, and social justice.

Students, including Kite and Key Society president and Rising Engineering senior Sofia Gonzalez, said they were shocked and saddened by Furda's decision to leave the University after leading the Admissions Office for 12 years.

As Vice President for Social Equity and Community, Howard will oversee programs and initiatives that foster social equality, inclusion, and diversity at Penn through various research and collaborative efforts.

As of this month, Campaign for Community will offer grants of up to $1500 toward proposals concerning racial justice at Penn, in Philadelphia, and in students’ home communities. 

Members of UMOJA said they were disappointed after a meeting with administration, in which the group also demanded a COVID-19 response fund for students and SAC funding for local non-profits.

More than 9,600 people have signed a petition demanding that Penn cease its institutional support of a "racist, fascist police state" that has led to continued violence against Black people. After decades of postwar gentrification, the petition also asks the University to open its campus to West Philadelphia and pay PILOTS.

The five-year-old video has prompted the University to look further into the matter.

While students appreciated that Gutmann named particular initiatives in her second email, many still felt it did not properly communicate what Penn could do to fight systemic racism and support students of color.

Gutmann’s statement addressed the “tragic and senseless” nature of Floyd’s murder, as well as the University’s commitment to creating a safer and more inclusive campus community.

Penn announced in January that they would not invest in thermal coal and tar sands industries in the future and a University spokesperson wrote Penn has no further plans to report.
