Gutmann was confirmed by a vote of 54 to 42 when the Senate convened Tuesday afternoon. President Joe Biden officially nominated Gutmann after months of speculation on July 2, 2021.
Pritchett will serve until University of Virginia Provost M. Elizabeth "Liz" Magill begins her tenure as Penn's ninth president on July 1. He will be the first Black individual to serve as Penn president.
Magill, who currently serves as the University of Virginia's Provost and Executive Vice President, will assume the Penn Presidency on July 1.

Only seniors who have participated in Penn's asymptomatic testing program this semester and who have not had housing or access to campus revoked because of a Campus Compact violation will be eligible to participate.
Pottruck began a reopening pilot program on Feb. 3 after the Quiet Period ended, with plans to potentially reopen to all students. Chief Wellness Officer Benoit Dubé told The Daily Pennsylvanian on Feb. 23 that the protocols taken during the pilot program “have been shown to work.”
