9/11 10th Anniversary Issue

Sophomore Josh Pompan had the chance to clinch the match against No. 45 Princeton for Penn men's tennis on Saturday, but couldn't finish it off, falling in three sets.

Until this weekend, Penn men’s tennis had yet to play a tournament in the 2016 season at full strength. Its veteran star, senior Vim De Alwis, was recovering from knee surgery after getting injured late in the 2015 season, and rookie sensation Dmitry Shatalin was stuck sorting through NCAA clearance bureaucracy.

This past Friday at Staten Island was one for the books for Penn track and field. Returning for the second time this month to the Ocean Breeze Complex in New York, the Red and Blue broke records and brought the heat to the highly competitive Fastrack National Invite.

ITHACA, N.Y. — Steve Donahue went back to Newman Arena on Saturday and walked away with another win — this time for a different team. The first-year Penn basketball coach returned to his old stomping grounds at Cornell as the Quakers handed the Big Red a 92-84 defeat just a day after falling at Columbia, 63-53.


Freshman Jackson Donahue continued to find his feet in the Ivy League this weekend, with a team-high 25 points in the 92-84 win over Cornell proving his ever-increasing worth as a starter.

Remember when you stopped watching Pretty Little Liars, because the repetitive subplots and twists, no matter how exciting initially, just seemed to slow the whole thing down? The United States presidential election, too, seems to elicit a feverish intensity lasting so long that its quality is compromised. At this point, the long-lasting sensationalism of the American electoral process is taken for granted.

  On Friday night I would have told you that this has been a bizarre election cycle. I would have told you that Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump would win their respective primaries.


Bernie Sanders has dramatically outperformed the initial expectations for his campaign. After his near tie in Iowa and his huge win in New Hampshire, many prospective democratic voters are full on “Feeling the Bern.” His honesty, consistent liberal record and focus on big money’s corruption of politics resonate strongly with primary voters.



President Gutmann takes a brief repose at the start of her Inauguration ceremony yesterday morning in Irvine Auditorium.  The Eighth President of Penn, Gutmann delivered a rousing inaugural address stressing her commitment to the community.

Academia isn’t usually thought of as a typical business, where employees “climb the ladder” to more prestigious positions, but many of Penn’s administrators have done just that, starting as professors and taking on more responsibilities as they ascend the ranks.
