Penn's latest sustainability report for fiscal year 2020 highlights a sizable reduction in carbon emissions and waste generation — much of which is due to the pandemic. 

As the fall 2020 semester comes to a close, students who decided taken a leave of absence reflect on a time of improving mental health and exploring other interests — with some even realizing that finishing college might no longer be in the cards for them. 

“We’ve spoken to Vice President Rush, confirmed that the remarks were not directed at the student but another matter unrelated to University Council, and she has apologized for the use of inappropriate language,” University spokesperson Stephen MacCarthy wrote in an email to The Daily Pennsylvanian. “We consider this matter closed.”

O’Mara, who received a master’s in English and History from Penn in 2017, ran for the second time this election season to continue representing Pennsylvania’s 165th District in Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives.

College sophomore Keerthi Jayaraman won an October special election with 22 total votes. College senior Anish Welde also ran unopposed in the November special election and secured election to the final vacant seat with just 12 votes. 

A Penn Graduate School of Education professor released a set of prediction trends, including transforming typical college curriculum and the addition of three-year undergraduate degrees, that will influence higher education decision making in 2021. 

Instead of traveling to Argentina and Chile, students who enroll in PSCI 313: People of the Land: Indigeneity and Politics in Argentina and Chile will conduct a series of Zoom interviews with experts in the field.

While most student visas are valid up to one year after graduation, international students majoring in STEM-designated programs can become eligible for an additional two-year work extension in their Optional Practical Training.

Two Wharton graduates raised nearly $20,000 in a virtual fundraiser for their 2020 President’s Engagement Prize-winning project, The Unscripted Project, with the goal of expanding their youth improv theatre program. 

During Tuesday's panel, titled “Race and the Selling of America” the two panelists discussed how they both started new projects pushing for diversity and inclusion in their respective industries.

Scoring a B-, Penn received six out of 13 available points. Harvard University, Yale University, and Brown University all received A grades. 

The Penn community will now be screened for COVID-19 using saliva tests instead of nasal swabs that had been in use for the majority of the fall semester. The saliva testing method will enable the University to increase its testing capacity, especially as more students are expected to return to campus in the spring. 

The announcement comes amid a fierce student backlash over a lack of breaks during the 2020/21 academic year, which has seen fall break canceled in addition to a shortened spring break.
