From the closure of popular gelato place Capogiro to the announcement of New College House West, 2017 was a big year for real estate at Penn. 

Regardless of what students thought about Trump’s first year, the Penn brand has inevitably entered the national discussion surrounding his administration. 

Notable speakers from 2017 include the former US Army soldier Chelsea Manning and the award-winning writer Ta-Nehisi Coates who bashed Trump during his event at Penn. 

Pottruck has phased out a discount offered to student performing arts groups to reserve rooms, which has resulted in a dramatic increase in cost of the rehearsal space.

Over the past year, Penn has appointed a new provost, College dean, LGBT Center director, and chief diversity officer.

For students, alumni and campus officials, 2017 was a watershed year for dialogue and activism around mental health. 

Close to 20 percent of Philadelphians faced food insecurity between 2014-16, even as food insecurity decreased nationally during this time period as the economy improved.

The plan will benefit middle-income students who do not qualify for Brown's no-loan financial aid but still require some form of financial assistance.

From Penn's dining hall policies to the Trump administration's appointment of key personnel,  students took to the internet to pen a variety of petitions this year. 

This third iteration of the travel ban restricts most citizens of Iran, Libya, Chad, Yemen, Somalia, Syria, and North Korea, in addition to some from Venezuela, from entering the U.S.

Of the full donation, $150 million will fund an endowment which, after five years, will eliminate student loans for Columbia medical students. 

These eight Penn students raised over $5,000 for the Children’s Literacy Initiative as part of the inaugural Glass Jar Fellowship. 

David Cohen also serves as the executive vice president of Comcast Corporation, which, if the bill passes, would be able to control the content and speed of certain websites available.

The book contains five sections including brunch, dinner party, and picnic. Each section includes a forward written by a Penn graduate currently working in the food industry. 

As university endowments, including Penn’s own pool of assets, have increased in value, student activists have focused intently on the choices investment managers make with school money.

“I think something that should be avoided is showing films by people who have clearly committed sexual violence,” Engineering sophomore Curie Shim said. 

The podcast’s first episode aired on Feb. 21 of this year, and 15 episodes have been released so far.
