In culmination of Africa Fest Week, Penn students gathered to promote African culture and raise awareness about their activities on campus. The event showcased several performers, including Penn a capella group PAPA and Rafiya’s African soul band from Philadelphia.

All eight sororities participated in the dance competition, vying for the grand prize: $500 awarded to the charity of their choice, along with gift cards to Allegro Pizza, City Tap House, Copa Banana and Smokey Joe’s ­— and of course, a rose from PiKapp. GALLERY: War of the Roses 2012

The Undergraduate Assembly filled out the remainder of its executive board late Thursday night, with College sophomore Will Smith, College junior Jake Shuster and College freshman Joyce Kim winning internal elections for the positions of speaker, treasurer and secretary, respectively. The Quakers will need to play the entire 60 minutes, especially after last week’s last-minute loss to Yale. A loss to Brown would most likely take them out of the running of the four-team Ivy League playoffs.

College junior Chris Cruz and Engineering sophomore Ibrahim Ayub hosted a general body meeting to relaunch Check One, a multiracial and multicultural organization that has not met for about a decade on Penn’s campus after being founded in 1995.

The University was ranked second in social media use among American and European universities in a recent study done by social media consulting firm Sociagility.
