Front Breaking

Ira Glass has been labeled by Time Magazine as the "best radio host in America." And tomorrow night he will be making his Philadelphia debut at the Kimmel Center in Center City. Holding this event at the Kimmel Center will be a huge factor in accomplishing one of the Kimmel Center's missions: bringing renowned artists to perform in Philadelphia.

In a crucial Ivy faceoff two months ago, Tara Chawla and Kristen Lange took the court for the women's squash team against Yale needing to win both matches. They did just that, giving the Quakers a 5-4 comeback win over the Bulldogs in New Haven, Conn. The scene was eerily similar Wednesday night in Hartford, Conn.

The Latest

Phi Gamma Delta is returning to Penn for the first time this century. The fraternity, also known as Fiji or Phi Gam, had been an establishment at Penn since 1881. Fiji fraternity members surrendered the Penn chapter in 1999 following a fatal accident in which an alumnus fell several stories at the fraternity house after he had been drinking heavily.

Wharton recently filled four senior positions, a move officials say will strengthen various divisions of the school. Jonathan Cutler was named director of MBA admissions and financial aid, Ira Rubien is the new executive director of communications, Leonard Lodish is now the vice dean of the program for social impact and Douglas Collom was named executive director of Wharton West.

From the Pennsylvania primary to the World Series, The Daily Pennsylvanian's 124th Board of Editors and Managers has witnessed an exhilarating year of news. With a heavy heart, it now passes the baton to the organization's next generation of leaders. Tomorrow, the 125th Board of Editors and Managers will be inaugurated at the DP's annual banquet.

W. Squash | Bantams bring int'l flavor to Ringe

They did just that, giving the Quakers a 5-4 comeback win over the Bulldogs in New Haven, Conn. The scene was eerily similar Wednesday night in Hartford, Conn.

M. Squash | An impossible task in Hartford

Calling the Trinity men's squash program "great" does not do it justice. It is arguably the best in collegiate sports history. The Bantams' 189-match win streak is the longest for any college team ever, and they consistently bring in the best recruits from all over the world.

Wrestling | Off to the other land of Lincoln

According to the Nebraska Corn Board, there are more than 3,500 different uses for the almost omnipresent vegetable. Ethanol, high-fructose corn syrup and starch are just some of the more prominent maize manifestations. The Penn wrestling team (6-4, 3-0 EIWA) hopes to add "redemption" to that list when it battles the No.

M. Tennis | Back from injury, Boym ready for Drexel

Senior captain Jonathan Boym has been waiting almost two years for this, the start of the 2009 spring tennis season. After sitting out most of his junior campaign with a shoulder injury, Boym can't wait to get back on the court. "I'm really excited," Boym said.

The first words that often come to mind upon hearing "West Philadelphia" are "underprivileged" and "dangerous." One professor is working to change those words to "rich in history." That was the goal when History professor Walter Licht started the West Philadelphia Community History Center virtual museum, a site that will hopefully gather the area's history in one central location.

W. Swimming | It's sayonara for seniors at Sheerr

The seniors on the women's swimming team would love to leave Sheerr Pool for the final time with two more notches in the win column. But besting Navy and Rider tomorrow, after a Senior Day ceremony, will not be easy for Lauren Bergstrom, Lindsey Gottschalk, Nicole Malgeri, Amy Wolf and the rest of the Quakers.

Spring rush is a done deal for this year's sorority girls. Last night, a new class of recruits received their bids as part of a wild ceremony in Houston Hall's Hall of Flags. The ceremony marked the end of a week-long process of dances, tours and sorority parties, which College freshman Jamie Nichol described as "speed dating, only with girls.

M. Hoops | Down to one final chance

Since Penn's 2007 NCAA Tournament appearance, it has gone a woeful 0-for-Big 5 over two seasons. In the low point of their play in the informal conference, the Quakers were blown out, 82-42, by Saint Joseph's a year ago. It was an absolute debacle in every sense of the word.

The decline in homicides in Philadelphia last year didn't meet the ambitious goal Mayor Michael Nutter outlined when he took office but still showed a considerable drop. Homicides were reduced by 15.3 percent last year, down from 392 in 2007 to 332 in 2008.

'Can I see your I.D.?" might sound different from "Ausweis, bitte" but, in essence, they're both harboring the same doubt: You don't look old enough to buy alcohol. To some at Penn, this isn't viewed as a nuisance - they may see it as a necessary evil or as a non-issue.

Today's issue of the DP will be the last published by its 124th Board of Editors. On Monday, a new board will assume leadership of Penn's newspaper of record. One of our most important goals this past year was to transform The Daily Pennsylvanian from a newspaper into a news organization.

This Tuesday I woke up in D.C. at the crack of dawn to watch Barack Obama say the words, "I will execute the office of president of the United States faithfully." Or was it faithfully execute? Whatever it was, I was there to see it happen - well, sort of. My brother, cousin and I were fortunate enough to score some "blue" tickets to the inauguration - three of over 250,000 total tickets, of the millions who wanted them.

Grad students push for child care assistance

Every month, David Salas-De La Cruz spends $900 to leave his nine-month-old son in a day care three days a week. For families with two working parents, the cost of day care is usually manageable. But for graduate students like Salas-De La Cruz, a Ph.D. student in the Engineering school, affordable childcare can be much more difficult to come by.

Aspiring actors on campus will have a chance to show off their Hollywood skills this weekend. Tomorrow there will be a general open casting call for extras in the latest M. Night Shyamalan movie, The Last Airbender. Shyamalan, a Philadelphia native, has directed a number of box-office hits, including The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and The Happening.
