April 7 - With its hopes of an Ivy League title all but dashed, the men's lacrosse team viewed its Tuesday matchup with archrival No. 2 Princeton as a chance for redemption.
The Tigers were fresh off an upset of then-No. 2 Syracuse - the defending national champion - so Penn was looking to pull off one of the biggest upsets in recent team history.
But in the end, it was close but but no cigar for the Quakers.
Ninety seconds into overtime, Princeton senior attack Tommy Davis scored the game-winner, allowing the Tigers to escape, 10-9, their 20th straight over Penn.
The goal came on the first possession of the extra frame, after Princeton earned the faceoff on a questionable pushing call. Sophomore attack Jack McBride fed Davis on the side, who blasted a shot past Penn freshman goalkeeper Joe Hegener.
The Quakers (2-7, 1-4 Ivy) took a 6-4 lead into halftime, but the Tigers (9-1, 2-0) came out of the break hot, scoring the equalizing goal at 7-7 midway through the third quarter.
Penn could've won it if Corey Winkoff's wrap-around shot hadn't deflected off Princeton goalie Tyler Fiorito's helmet at the end of the fourth quarter.
But without Al Kohart, Penn would not have even had that chance. The sophomore midfield tied it with 59 seconds to go, giving Penn hope for the upset win.
Nope. Maybe next year, guys.
