After an encouraging performance with the bats in its last Ivy weekend, the Softball team looked to carry that momentum into a doubleheader against city rival Temple.
But besides a pair of home runs, the Quakers couldn't put any additional runs on the board, and the defense wasn't much better in 7-2 and 7-1 losses at Warren Field.
In game one, Owls senior Katie Burdeaux pitched a complete game five-hitter, blemished only by Penn catcher Alisha Prystowsky's two-run homer in the sixth inning.
Meanwhile, Penn (9-20-1, 4-4 Ivy) ace Jessie Lupardus labored through five innings and got the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits.
Lupardus was victimized by three errors in the fifth that led to four unearned runs on only one hit, which just happened to be Temple freshman Christina Sykora's two-run homer.
The second game was a mirror image of the first, except first baseman Susan Miller's leadoff homer in the second inning was only a solo shot, and it gave Penn a 1-0 lead.
The Quakers (9-20-1) quickly squandered that advantage in the top of the third inning, which eerily resembled the fifth inning of Game One.
Two runners reached on fielding errors - one by Hennessy herself - and three singles and a walk led to four unearned runs.
The defense also betrayed Chelsea Ott, who came on in relief in the sixth and gave up two runs but only one earned. In all, Temple (7-21) scored 14 runs, but nine were unearned thanks to six Penn errors.
Temple freshman Sarah Reynolds scattered seven hits through five innings, while fellow freshman Lauren Spoo closed out the victory with two shutout innings in relief.
Penn resumes Ivy play Saturday at 27-7 Cornell.
