The heightened scrutiny that Penn and universities across the country have experienced over the past six months echoed throughout the Trustees’ discussions.

Out of the 72,544 students who applied to Penn, 3,530 applicants were accepted, marking a 4.9% acceptance rate.

Cooper’s retirement— announced on Friday during a meeting of Penn’s Board of Trustees — is the latest in a string of departures among the highest positions at Penn.

These additions were announced on June 2 — a month after the initial proposal — and include significant reductions to Federal Pell Grants and the Federal Work-Study program.  

Former NCAA swimmers opposing the inclusion of trans athletes in sports teams aligning with their gender identity, including Riley Gaines and Paula Scanlan, have criticized decisions made by university officials.

At the June 12 demonstration speakers advocated for the RAPUP’s right to “unionize for better healthcare, international protections, and higher pay.”

Campus organizations — including the African American Resource Center, Penn Museum, and Penn Libraries — have planned community-focused events to commemorate Juneteenth through the third week of June. 

The institute intends to “drive discoveries with transformative impact for those living with autism spectrum disorder," according to a CHOP press release.

The program — which began in 2023 — employs a single ambassador who engages with unhoused individuals in the University City area.

The brief asserts that the funding cuts undermine decades of scientific collaboration and jeopardize the innovation made possible by the partnership between the federal government and the higher education system.

Raghavi Sudharsan and William Beltran — researchers at the Division of Experimental Retinal Therapies at Penn Vet — led the team to target advanced stages of retinal degeneration.

The initiative uses artificial intelligence to create and update new oral health guidelines based on published scientific findings.

Vice Provost for Global Initiatives Ezekiel Emanuel and Associate Vice Provost Amy Gadsden acknowledged the “deeply destabilizing” effect of the policy on Penn’s international community.

The new $10 million facility — founded in cooperation with the Cardiology Consultants of Philadelphia, Cardiovascular Logistics, and SCA Health — is expected to open later this year. 

In her new role, Durham will be “responsible for shaping, guiding, and advancing Penn Vet’s educational mission,” according to the school's announcement. 

The hearing comes after Republicans announced an investigation into the Ivy League’s eight universities for alleged violations of antitrust laws in April.

Carnaroli currently holds the position of Penn's chief financial and administrative officer, and will serve as Stanford's senior vice president for finance and administration.
