‘After one full year of negotiations, Penn administrators have still failed to agree to a contract that includes fair wages, improved benefits, and strong support for international workers,’ GET-UP wrote in the press release. 

If the motion passes with a two-thirds majority, GET-UP’s elected bargaining committee will have the power to call a graduate worker strike at its discretion.

In an interview with the DP, a member of AAUP-Penn said that the OREI did not attend a follow-up meeting on Nov. 3 with the faculty group to hear and respond to questions outlined in the report.

The event featured a range of speakers, including faculty, students, and researchers from Penn.

If the strike authorization vote passes, GET-UP’s bargaining committee will have the authority to call a strike at any time.

With the recent donation, Penn GSE will expand PASS into five school districts across Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey.

Roberts was presented with the award on Oct. 23 at the annual conference of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities in Portland, Ore.

The Oct. 15 meeting brought together various unions at Penn who urged University administrators to respect workers’ rights to organize. 

The union’s victory came just days before its one-year anniversary of negotiations, which began on Oct. 17, 2024.

The Oct. 11 message was sent in response to a memo from Penn that outlined recommendations for department chairs to “maintain teaching continuity” should graduate students participate in a work stoppage.
