2015 Cheshire Academy (Ct.) shooting guard Tyler Hamilton verally committed to Penn basketball on Monday, becoming the fifth member of the Quakers' Class of 2019, reports Alex Kline of The Recruit Scoop. Hamilton is a 6-foot-4, 180 pound guard from Norcross, Ga.

A New York Times article looked into why colleges around the country haven't taken the steps necessary to eliminate the large number of binge drinking cases that plague universities. The article, written by Beth McMurtrie of The Chronicle for Higher Education, focuses on how universities have identified the issue of college drinking yet aren't fixing the problem.

A study by the Bureau of Justice Statistics found that women enrolled in college at ages 18 to 24 are less likely to be victims of sexual assault than their nonstudent counterparts. The study said that the rate of sexual assault and rape was 1.2 times higher for nonstudents than for students.

Students at Columbia Law School will be allowed to postpone their exams in the aftermath of the recent grand jury decisions involving Eric Garner and Michael Brown, as reported first by Powerline. An email, which was sent from Columbia Law School Interim Dean Robert Scott to students, said that "students who feel that their performance on examinations will be sufficiently impaired due to the effects of these recent events may petition" to have their exam postponed.  Students at other law schools, including Harvard and Georgetown Law, are asking for the same ability at their respective schools. Wharton professor Adam Grant and Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg are working on a series of essays on women at work for the New York Times. The first in the four-part series examines gender stereotypes and how they are holding women back in the work place.

Business Insider listed Penn's 30 most successful alumni, spanning many industries. The list included actress Elizabeth Banks, singer John Legend (last year's commencement speaker), SpaceX founder Elon Musk and billionaire Donald Trump. Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett and actor Bruce Dern also made the list despite not graduating from the University.  Check out the full list HERE.

These past few months have seen turbulent times across the country regarding race and law enforcement issues, as well as other social issues. I wanted to take a moment to tell each of you how very proud the Penn Police Command Staff and I are of you and your response to recent protests on and around campus.


Gutmann joins die-in

the President of such a prestigious and diverse University should rely on facts instead of what she thinks will play to the public. As a supervisor of law enforcement employees, she should at the very least remain neutral and not give in to mob mentality.




DPOSTM came out victorious in the 2014 Kamin Cup, coming from behind to win, 63-56. Senior Sports Editor-elect/Sports Editor Emeritus Riley Steele was named MVP.

Junior quarterback Riley Darrel Steele provided the heroics, throwing for six touchdowns and running for another to lead DPOSTM to a thrilling 63-56 comeback victory over the Weenies. The win marks Sports’ ninth straight victory in the annual rivalry.
