Black Lives Matter Philadelphia's protest began peacefully on May 30, but as the group walked past City Hall, they encountered a large presence from the Philadelphia Police Department. There, the protest quickly turned violent.

Though Penn and the city of Philadelphia had already implemented nondiscrimination ordinances for LGBTQ+ individuals, Director of Penn's LGBT Center Dr. Erin Cross said she believes the decision will still have a major impact on the Penn community.

The new concentrations ⁠— Advocacy & Activism, Audiences & Persuasion, Culture & Society, Data & Network Science, and Politics & Policy ⁠— represent a "less is more approach." 

BPLA shared a compilation of resources for students, including recommended Penn faculty and staff, courses focusing on Black issues, Black LGBTQ courses, and Black movies for white allies.

While several organizations have released statements and raised money towards anti-racist and community-oriented organizations in recent weeks, some Greek organizations have committed to addressing racism and a lack of diversity within their own chapters on campus.

As of this month, Campaign for Community will offer grants of up to $1500 toward proposals concerning racial justice at Penn, in Philadelphia, and in students’ home communities. 

Athletes share highlights, workout videos, and grades, as well as build relationships through the social media platform.

The summer cohort includes over 90 students from a variety of degree-seeking programs, such as Wharton MBA, Penn Dental, and Penn Veterinary Medicine students, who are pursuing joint degrees. 

As the Black Lives Matter movement continues to grow, performing arts groups including Penn Glee Club, Penn Singers, and Mask and Wig Club are making efforts to become more inclusive.

Over 500 people gathered in LOVE Park on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Before marching to the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a series of speakers, including multiple Black transgender women, recounted personal stories.

The DP surveyed undergraduates to gauge what students hope to see and are currently most concerned about regarding fall 2020. Over half of the nearly 1,000 respondents prefer a hybrid model of in-person and online instruction, while only 9% preferring an entirely remote, online option. 

Six and a half percent fewer Democrats and 29% fewer Republicans voted in the 2020 Pennsylvania primary than in the 2016 Pennsylvania primary.

The restaurant made zero revenue for three months while Parson planned how the restaurant would operate in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. 

Despite contradictory interpretations of the tweets, however, Sarkar maintains that her comments are not Islamophobic, and said she was surprised by the backlash.

"[Reopening] has clearly not yet been the disaster that some predicted," Morris wrote in his data analysis which he published on June 10.

While PURM participants said they are disappointed that they are unable to conduct research in person, they remain optimistic about their projects, and appreciate how faculty mentors have worked to provide meaningful research opportunities.
