Film shown on campus alleges pro-Israel bias

A documentary alleging that the American media is biased in favor of Israel sparked debate in Logan Hall last night. A discussion panel on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was held before an audience of about 10 by the Muslim Students Association. Moderator Arsalan Iftikhar, the legal director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, has appeared on talk shows on numerous news channels, including CNN, the BBC and Fox News.


The mood among the Penn Democrats only improved last night as time passed. The Penn College Republicans were somewhat more sour. The Democrats met last night at Huntsman Hall to watch the election returns roll in. The mood the was initially cautious and subdued, but people became more jubilant as reports of wins started to arrive.

Former Penn professor Tracy McIntosh may be headed to prison after all. The Pennsylvania Superior Court ordered on Monday that McIntosh be resentenced for his sexual-assault conviction.. The decision to resentence was in response to an appeal by the district attorney's office that McIntosh's sentence had been excessively lenient.

n Women's Rugby. The team emerged victorious during the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union championship weekend. Defeating Bloomsburg University, Penn finished on top in the White Division and undefeated for the season. At the semifinal game on Saturday, Penn dominated Saint Joseph's for a final score of 29-5.

Organizers called Election Day at Penn a success as students and community members alike turned out in large numbers across campus to vote. Despite some lines, the voting experience this November was widely reported to be a smooth one. "It was uneventful, and uneventful is good," Wharton sophomore and Judge of Elections Greg Kaplan said as he was preparing to close the polls at David Rittenhouse Laboratory.

But Matt Valenti isn't most athletes. In March 2006, Valenti became the first Quakers wrestler since Brent Matter in 2000 to capture the NCAA title.

When the Penn men's basketball team traveled to Cornell last season, all that Khaliq Gant could do was listen to the game from his bed in a spinal-rehabilitation center in Atlanta. But when the Quakers host Cornell this coming February, Gant will have a much better view of the action - he'll be sitting on the bench at the Palestra next to his teammates and coaches.

SCRANTON - After nearly two years locked in a bitter and relentless campaign, Bob Casey Jr. finally reached the stage last night a winner. As predicted by numerous polls, Casey defeated Republican incumbent Rick Santorum last night to become Pennsylvania's first Democratic senator since 1995.

Bodybuilders strut their stuff in contest

Zellerbach Theatre was rocking as the 15th annual Mr. and Ms. Penn Bodybuilding Contest kicked off. The Mr. Penn prize was awarded to College junior Ian Barrett, while College junior Jesse Carlin was dubbed Ms. Penn. The crowd enthusiastically did the wave while anxiously anticipating the first competition.

Engineering senior Saad Saadi may have offended a lot of people with his suicide-bomber costume last week- but that's his prerogative, free speech experts say. Saadi, a Daily Pennsylvanian photographer, wore the costume to Penn President Amy Gutmann's annual Halloween party last Tuesday.


Quakers looking to rebound after Princeton debacle

With Penn out of the running for the 2006 Ivy League football title, the team must now try to end the year on a positive note. "It's the same motivation you would have in Week 1," Penn coach Al Bagnoli said. "We never talk about titles." Playing under any circumstances is "something that you've been trained to do," he added.
