As part of its ongoing Real Beauty campaign, Dove posted a YouTube video last week that has over 19 million views. I find the overwhelmingly positive response to this video troubling — especially the praise from within the Penn community.









	Last weekend, junior Ultimate player Himalaya Mehta had a tough decision. He was forced to chose between going to a tournament with Void, Penn’s team, or heading to Washington to play in his professional debut with the Spinners.

When the collegiate season ended each year, Mehta would play on competitive club teams, getting to experience the game at a higher level. So when the Philadelphia Spinners — one of eight teams in Major League Ultimate — announced they were having tryouts, Mehta couldn’t help but be intrigued.






Liberatus

As vice president of College Republicans, students are quick to disagree with me. I heard tougher jests during the campaign season on campus than “working for the Devil” can encapsulate. But that is the beauty of being a member of the so-called opposition.

Last Friday, about 250 guests, students and faculty from various Turkish cultural associations enjoyed Turkish food, music and calligraphy in Houston’s Hall of Flags for Philly Turkish Night 2013 — an annual banquet hosted in turn by Penn, Drexel and Temple universities.


Through My Eyes

As our world widens in our college years, the idea of “stranger danger” needs to modify its meaning as well. If we carry the idea unchanged into adulthood, we’ll miss out on getting to know interesting people.

As you exit the elevators on the newly renovated sixth floor of Van Pelt Library, Benjamin Franklin’s writing desk and several of his prized possessions — including his cufflinks and a silver spoon — are displayed in a glass case on your right.
