MERT, a student-run organization that responds to medical emergencies in the Penn community, has responded to more incidents relating to general medical emergencies than student intoxication this semester, in a break from previous years.

College senior Nicholas Thomas-Lewis from Kimball, Nebraska and Wharton and Engineering senior Raveen Kariyawasam from Colombo, Sri Lanka bring Penn’s total number of Rhodes Scholars to 33. 

The awards are given to recognize the achievements of innovative Weitzman students, faculty, and alumni, as well as leaders in architecture and planning outside of the Penn community.

For spring 2022, 191 Penn students have been accepted to study abroad in 45 different programs across 18 countries — a significant jump from the 39 students currently studying abroad in just seven countries.

The University is adding multi-stall, all-gender bathrooms for future buildings on campus, but student groups are still advocating for renovations to existing buildings that are popular among community members. 

Chief Wellness Officer Benoit Dubé said the majority of the cases were linked to either travel to areas with lower vaccination rates or transmission by unvaccinated family members.

The University's emphasis on in-person instruction for spring 2022 applies to all four undergraduate schools.

The election was held to fill four seats made vacant when elected UA members stepped down from their roles.

While the overall case count remains low, thousands of students — including 2,856 undergraduates in the College of Arts and Sciences — are at risk of receiving noncompliance red PennOpen Passes on Nov. 16 due to testing noncompliance.

The Student Activities Council, one of Penn's six student governing branches, will be led by its new chair, Engineering junior Evan Bean.

Dig Inn, El Taco, and Amma’s South Indian Cuisine round out the five restaurants that will open locations near campus in the coming months.

Students said that seeing their families in person meant a lot to them during their adjustment to college life, though it was difficult to find time to spend with family while completing classwork.

In an interview with The Daily Pennsylvanian, City Councilmember Helen Gym stressed the importance of Pennsylvania in national politics, and noted that many reforms college students care about are addressed at the local level.

More than 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students received red PennOpen Passes for COVID-19 testing noncompliance two weeks ago.

This new test-booking assistance service comes days after The Daily Pennsylvanian published an article on student backlash about Weingarten and Disability Services’s allegedly inadequate support resources during midterms.

Many professors incorporated benefits they found from using online platforms during the pandemic into their midterms this semester, adding that the return to in-person learning has eliminated concerns of academic integrity.

DAB organized the event, which was held in New College House West, to provide guidance on balancing the pressures Penn students face and building a supportive network of friends.
