The race, considered a "bellwether" for the November midterm elections, has captured national attention in recent months.

On Monday, the University notified the students affected via email that their personal information had been accessed and that an investigation was ongoing.

The email asked recipients to submit their 'ideas and suggestions' on how to improve Penn's policies around sexual harassment by Apr. 6, adding that comments would be kept confidential.

Krasner also announced that he has advised his staff not to seek charges for those arrested for marijuana possession.

The announcement comes in response to a faculty motion to rescind the president's honorary degree.

Information accessed included class enrollment, students' names, and the last four digits of their social security numbers.

Rising sophomores, juniors and seniors at Harvard have been able to opt for gender-neutral housing since 2014, though this option has yet to be extended to incoming freshmen. 

Penn's Board of Trustees voted to increase undergraduate tuition by 3.8 percent for the upcoming academic year, with the total cost of attendance exceeding $70,000 for the first time.

The petition calls for the dismissal of Wax's claims, and for a course of action, ideally including the removal of Wax from teaching first year courses and from committees involving the direction of the Law school.
