How do you win a war? A new course taught by Michael Horowitz uses theories of war fighting and highlights factors that contribute to victory or defeat in an attempt to answer that question. Horowitz, who specializes in political theory, is one of three new hires in the Political Science department.

Drexel University has been selected to host the next Democratic primary debate Oct. 30. The United Kingdom-based University and College Union announced Friday that it will not go through with its previously proposed boycott of Israeli academics because such a boycott could be illegal. A statement on UCU's Web site stated that a ban on academics and universities could infringe upon discrimination legislation.

Thanks to SEPTA's latest fare hike, College sophomore Benjamin Brooke will have to shell out an extra $2.40 per month to get into and out of Center City. Starting today, the price of SEPTA tokens and paper transfers will each increase 15 cents, to $1.45 and 75 cents, respectively.

When roommates Priscilla Matos and Jessie Daniel head to class in the morning from their 18th-story Harnwell College House dorm room, Matos typically takes the stairs, and Daniel uses the elevator. Penn welcomed its first group of Civic Scholars this semester, and its students are set for a college career immersed in community service.
