When Elizabeth Murray joined the Harvard class of 2003, her story became a national sensation. She lived on the New York City streets for years after being born to drug-addicted parents and eventually found inspiration in education after her mother's AIDS-related death - a story that was turned into the Emmy-nominated Lifetime movie, Homeless to Harvard.

But for the approximately 125 students who study American Sign Language each semester or those who are deaf or hard of hearing, there are not many movies that target deaf culture - until now.

Bio prof. sheds light on Lyme disease Recent research by Penn biology professor Dustin Brisson suggests that chipmunks and two shrew species account for nearly three-quarters of carriers of ticks infected with Lyme disease. The widely held belief was that mice were the main animal carriers of the disease.

Gutmann to stay until 2014

Penn President Amy Gutmann announced she is staying at Penn until 2014 at Friday's University Board of Trustees meeting. Friday was the second and final day of Trustee meetings, held at the Inn at Penn. In the stated meeting, officials recapped previous meetings and discussed what to expect in the future.

How do you win a war? A new course taught by Michael Horowitz uses theories of war fighting and highlights factors that contribute to victory or defeat in an attempt to answer that question. Horowitz, who specializes in political theory, is one of three new hires in the Political Science department.

An arts and entertainment blog with a distinctively Penn focus

When the Covenant - the red, cylindrical statue on Locust Walk - was erected in 1975, students called it "obnoxiously spastic" and reminiscent of "cosmic soda straws." Now, students just call it the Dueling Tampons. And that's what 1996 College graduate Matt Rosler calls his Web site: Duelingtampons.
