Critical Playground

As a freshman, I chose the guaranteed community and the institutionalized comfort of a social calendar. I’m not saying it’s wrong, but I’m saying that I didn’t try to imagine something different.

The hackathon — described as “the best student-run hackathon I’ve ever seen” by a representative from Yahoo!, a sponsor of the event — brought together students from Columbia, Harvard, Rutgers and other East Coast universities, to participate in a 48-hour tech app-creating competition. Yesterday, about 10 Penn students joined more than 250 Philadelphia locals at Arch Street United Methodist Church next to City Hall for a discussion panel focusing on issues facing Philadelphia’s immigrant communities. VIDEO: Day of Justice
