Nearly 200 individuals gathered Wednesday — virtually and in person — to listen to the event's panelists address the U.S. government's response to the crisis and how other nations will likely respond.

Penn Nursing assistant professor Shoshana Aronowitz will moderate the event, which will be co-sponsored by the Center for Health Economics of Treatment Interventions for Substance Use Disorder, HCV, and HIV.

Jariwala and Chen are among the 118 recipients of the two-year fellowship, which awards $75,000 to winners to fund their research.

Burns, an Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker and Academy Award nominee, will give the Commencement speech and receive an honorary doctor of arts degree from Penn.

The fellows will have access to laboratories focused on infectious disease-related research topics, including vaccine development, tropical medicine, public health, and ecology, according to Penn Vet. 

Platt and Sterling aimed to research why there was such a considerable discrepancy between deaths of despair in the U.S. compared to other countries.

Jeffrey Lieberman serves as chair of the Columbia University Psychiatry Department as well as psychiatrist-in-chief at the Columbia-affiliated NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

Beavers, who has taught at Penn for over 30 years, will discuss his work in contemporary African American literature.

The event will be held virtually from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will focus on solving problems at the intersection of environmental sustainability and Indigenous issues.

The debate will be held at Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. in Philomathean Hall, which is on the fourth floor of College Hall.

This new gift will create an academic center within the Korean Studies program that will sponsor a global conference and promote collaboration with Philadelphia’s Korean community.

Along with a transcribe-a-thon, the event included other activities like group songs and national broadcasts with live speakers.

The donation from Wharton graduate Leonard Lauder will fund a program to recruit and prepare a group of nurse practitioners to work in underserved communities across the nation.
