The Daily Pennsylvanian launched the “Keepers of the Press” campaign, a giving opportunity dedicated to protecting its flagship product: the printed newspaper.
As the nation’s semiquincentennial approaches, the campaign’s goal is symbolic: 76 donors giving $250 or more in honor of the enduring importance of a free press since 1776.
Donor contributions will fund printing, production, and distribution while maintaining the DP’s independence and legacy. Support at any level goes a long way in preserving an irreplaceable tradition.
“Most things disappear the second we scroll past them,” DP Foundation Executive Director Steven Molberger said. “The DP print issues do not. It’s students sitting side by side, debating headlines, editing stories, designing pages, and turning their work into something tangible. That is where the magic of the DP has always lived.”
The DP has served as Penn’s paper of record and as a training ground for aspiring journalists for more than 140 years. The printed DP is one of the strongest products of that legacy: something students hold, alumni remember, families keep, and future generations look back on.
“Through the Keepers of the Press campaign, we’re not only protecting the printed newspaper, but the tradition of student journalists coming together to create it,” Molberger said.
Make your gift today to sustain the DP’s mission for years to come.
