Currently, SPEC is considered a subsidiary of the Undergraduate Assembly, while the NEC, SAC, and SCUE are autonomous branches of student government, over which the UA has little control. As a result, the UA can influence SPEC actions much more easily than those of the other branches of government. C1 would make SPEC much more independent, and would place the committee on an equal footing with the other branches of government.
