Being a freshman at Penn is tough. But being a queer freshman at Penn has made my adjustment to college way more difficult than it should be. 

After the recent revelations of the Paradise Papers, it is obvious that Penn hasn’t been entirely practicing what it preaches.

Penn football’s epic late-season surge ultimately couldn’t secure its third straight season of Ivy League title glory, but the Red and Blue had no such shortcomings with individual hardware. The Ivy League released its 2017 All-Ivy selections Tuesday afternoon, and the Quakers were thoroughly represented with 14 total picks.

The competition would be a six-team tournament on the first weekend of the season every year — hosted at the Palestra, in an ideal world — that compacts the entire Big 5 schedule into just three days. 

Watson, for the second year in a row, was just named one of 25 finalists for the prestigious Walter Payton Award, presented each year to the Most Outstanding Player in FCS Football.

While the DP is a great outlet to share experiences with the larger student body, we want students to know that there are many outlets on our campus to voice concerns and make productive change. 

We should ensure that when we hold ourselves accountable it doesn’t come at the cost of neglecting to have Penn do the same.

When Chelsea Manning speaks at the Annenberg Center on November 29, the Penn campus will be missing out on an opportunity.

There is great education and adventure in taking classes in a subject that is not only foreign to us, but also challenges our fundamental assumptions and beliefs. 

An education not only teaches but molds, and we ought to remember the forces that shape us into ourselves.
