March 11, 2020 marked a significant change in the lives of the Penn community. Campus transitioned from a place that housed over thousands of diverse, tight-knit communities of people to a desolated, eerie world.

The original order, issued on April 1, mandated that all residents stay home and practice social distancing, and all nonessential businesses shut down until April 30.

In light of the fact that 25.9% of undergraduate women at Penn reported having experienced non-consensual sexual contact sometime in college, it is crucial that we address the many misconceptions surrounding sexual assault on college campuses.

It is time for Penn to acknowledge that it owes more to students than a refund for housing and dining and that we pay our school for more than just a diploma, especially when students have never been more vulnerable.

CAFSA, an on-campus organization officially founded in September 2019 to combat rape culture and support historically underrepresented identities, removed Penn Dems from their coalition after they endorsed presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

Even though most students have now left Penn's campus, students should still be counted as living in Philadelphia, or where they would have been living on April 1 had the coronavirus not displaced them.

Vice President of Finance and Treasurer MaryFrances McCourt wrote in an email to The Daily Pennsylvanian that Penn has not yet finalized how it will spend the funds, nor has it received the money from the federal government yet. 

Kenney wrote the city is incurring “extraordinary expenditures” while also facing significant declines in tax revenue as businesses remain closed during Philadelphia’s stay-at-home order.

Penn President Amy Gutmann wrote in an email to all undergraduates on Tuesday morning that the summer savings grant will help mitigate the loss of expected income due to canceled summer jobs amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Even though President Trump doesn’t “take responsibility at all,” we must hold him accountable for his mistakes — and hold Penn College Republicans accountable for theirs.

Because U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services suspended routine visa services at all embassies and consulates due to COVID-19, it is unclear if new international students will be able to secure visas in time for the fall semester.

The website, called The Virtual Vine, will feature weekly videos created by ambassadors from 15 universities for incoming students to learn about resources for academics, research, financial aid, and student life.

The prizes are awarded annually to graduating seniors to encourage them to design engagement projects that will make a positive difference in the world in their first year after college.

Choosing where you want to spend the next four years of your life is really stressful, namely because of how consequential that decision is. Your decision to come to Penn represents the first of many to limit the number of potential paths you can follow in life.
