Penn’s International Internship Program is expected to expand this summer with a 45 percent increase in applicants. The program is reaching out to regional alumni clubs and tapping into other various resources to maximize opportunities for students.

Bringing a widespread trend to campus, the Kelly Writers House hosted their second annual Edible Books Party last night. In a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, students recreated popular literary titles using food and their imaginations, filling the dining room table with anything from ketchup on rye bread to “Steve Cobs” — a portrait of the late Apple founder composed mostly of corn.

While the new West Philadelphia Shake Shack location will be on Drexel’s campus, Penn retailers are not worried about business. The restaurant will be coming to 32nd and Chestnut streets this summer, an expansion from its Center City location which opened last June on 20th and Sansom.

Graduate students have the option of five graduate fraternities across the Perelman School of Medicine, the School of Dental Medicine and the School of Veterinary Medicine. However, the majority of Penn’s 12 graduate schools do not have specific fraternities.

The rhetoric is heating up in 1993 Fels Institute of Government graduate Brett Mandel’s bid to unseat Alan Butkovitz as Philadelphia City Controller. The two Democrats also battled for the same position in the 2009 Philadelphia municipal election, where Butkovitz prevailed over Mandel in the Democratic primary.
