The Newman Center at Penn is the oldest Newman Center in the nation, and was founded in 1893 with the intention of creating an organization to provide Catholic college students with a religious community away from their local parishes.

As part of the program, known as "Diversity in the Stacks," Penn Libraries has been expanding its collections that represent minority groups who are part of Penn's student body.
