Questions have been raised about $100,000 in contracts arranged between a “disgraced” former Philadelphia Parking Authority Chief and Penn graduate student and SEPTA police chief Tom Nestel.

Yesterday, the Philadelphia Museum of Art broke ground for its new expansion project. The renovation, called the Core Project, is a $196 million endeavor which will be the museum’s most extensive renovation yet.

The day was devoted to Hart in an effort to show gratitude for the generous donations he made to Philadelphia schools in 2013 during a time when the Philadelphia School District was undergoing drastic budget cuts.

“We realized there was synergy between Mural Arts and our exhibit,” ICA Director of Public Engagement Maori Karmael Holmes said. “Since 2017 is the fiftieth anniversary of the Wall of Respect, we discovered a wonderful confluence.”

Under the new contract, prospective teachers will enter a two-year program. The student teachers will be assigned to work with a current Philadelphia educator in the first year before operating their own classroom the second year.

“I have found that when I go to other houses they always seem to be a bit quieter ... I feel like we are rare in that we are always together, we learn each others’ quirks and cohabitate very well together.”

Neighborhood Bike Works is a West Philadelphia nonprofit that aims to empower youth through cycling initiatives and programming, and all the profits accrued from their bike shop go directly back into the youth programming.

The project's philosophy is simple: recognizing those experiencing homelessness as people first, and their condition of being homeless second.
