Twin sisters Stacy and Claire Kim have been standout performers for the Penn women's cross country team all season. It was no different on Saturday, when they took two of the top three places, propelling the Quakers to a win at the Lafayette Leopard Invitational.

It was mid-summer, the church looked gorgeous, and family and friends dotted the premises. But as Shannon Barbour stood at the altar next to her husband-to-be, she started "zoning out." While the priest spoke, Barbour turned her attention to the pretty murals adorning the church walls.

I don't know how Columbia coach Norries Wilson usually interacts with the media. But I had the privilege of sitting in on the first-year coach's press conference the other day after Penn's 16-0 win over the Lions, and in short, it was the most entertaining one I have ever been to.

Ex-Wharton professor Scott Ward still has no trial date, according to the Clerk's Office at the U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va. Ward, who was arrested in August for importing child pornography, has remained in custody in Virginia while awaiting a formal indictment.

Two Penn students charged with assaulting a University senior with a beer bottle could face years in jail and hefty fines if convicted, according to state sentencing guidelines. College senior Bryce LeFort and Wharton senior Stephen Lande are facing charges of aggravated assault over an incident in which LeFort allegedly broke a glass beer bottle over the head of College senior Andrew Scharf, ripping off a portion of his ear.

On a day dominated by defense on both sides, senior running back Joe Sandberg broke free for an 18-yard score and caught a 10-yard touchdown pass to lead the Quakers to a 16-0 victory over Columbia.

As the Penn men's soccer team learned yesterday, it's not easy to unseat the champion. After winning their first three league games, the Quakers finally faltered against defending league co-champion Dartmouth, losing for the first time in nearly a month by a score of 2-1.

Officials vow more openness after 'Plateau'

The steel structure on 40th Street called "Plateau" may have garnered some vocal student criticism, but school officials promise they will ask for student perspectives the next time they embark on a public art project. "Plateau" - a 150-foot-long series of seats and tables with built-in night-time lighting - was dedicated Saturday by its New York-based artist, Andrea Blum.

When a celler-dwelling team undertakes a rebuilding effort after firing its old coach, the talk around the program is usually focused on the future, not the present.

Former Marketing professor Scott Ward was fired from Penn immediately following his arrest for importing child pornography in August - but if he had been teaching at another university, he might still be on the faculty. Penn made the decision to terminate Ward's employment immediately after his most recent arrest.

Columbia kicker Jon Rocholl was just a freshman when he launched a 47-yard field goal between the posts in a game against Penn last season. Despite his efforts, the Lions were blown out - their eighth loss in a row to the Quakers. But the kicker would continue to have his own success throughout his first season, making 11 of 15 field goals, including 5 of 7 from the 40-to-49-yard range.

Pa. senator slams detainee bill

Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) said that a bill passed by Congress denies terror detainees their rights in an appearance on campus yesterday. The act, backed by President Bush, goes too far in depriving detainees habeas corpus, which is enshrined in 800 years of legal history, he said.

Make a TV show To the Editor: As a producer on UTV, I strongly disagree with Ali Jackson's sentiments on the supposedly bland content of UTV ("After a show crossed the line, UTV lost its edge," DP, 10/9/06). Penn's student-run television station simply provides an outlet for students to express their ideas.

This weekend, the Penn men's and women's golf get one last shot before the snow hits, and a victory would help the Quakers get through a cold winter. Penn's men host the Big 5 Invitational tomorrow and Sunday, while the ladies head to Rutgers for the final match of the fall season.

As nursing shortage looms, school looks to expand

The School of Nursing is Penn's smallest undergraduate school, but it's looking to get a whole lot bigger. As the nation tries to cope with a projected shortage of 800,000 nurses by the year 2020, Nursing School administrators prepare for a different type of shortage - a lack of research space.
