College senior Bryce LeFort was sentenced to two years of probation yesterday for his involvement in the Oct. 5 attack of College senior Andrew Scharf with a beer bottle. At a remanded trial hearing, LeFort pled guilty to misdemeanor simple assault and reckless endangerment charges. Philadelphia lower-court judge Lydia Kirkland approved the sentencing agreement reached between Lefort and Scharf, whose right ear was permanently damaged due to the incident.

For Philadelphia, it's nothing less than the royal treatment this weekend. Prince Charles of Wales and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, are coming to the city to attend the Academy of Music's Gala Ball this Saturday, but will also be making stops around the city, including an afternoon trip to University City.


Bus wheels turn for a cheaper fare

For students looking to travel to the Big Apple on a budget, cheap transportation just got a little easier. The P2P Circulator service, which operates low-cost buses between Philadelphia and New York City, is now available at a newly opened Philadelphia terminal at the intersection of 30th and Market streets.


One year later, victim reflects on shooting

Engineering junior Mari Oishi was shot in the left thigh last January as she walked near the intersection of 38th and Walnut streets - the stray bullet came from a robbery that was occurring down the block. Partly as a result, President Amy Gutmann pledged an additional $5 million to the Division of Public Safety to create Operation Safe, through which the security presence, technology and lighting were all increased on campus.

Dec. 22 At 1:45 p.m. on Dec. 22, Penn Economics professor Rafael Robb had a phone call to make. Ten punches into his cell phone later, he had dialed the non-emergency number of the Upper Merion Police Department. "I just came home and found my wife murdered on the kitchen floor," he told the police dispatcher.


Craving foie gras? Look beyond Stephen Starr

Stephen Starr, owner of 11 of the city's premiere restaurants, has removed the French delicacy, a fattened duck or goose liver, from his Philadelphia menus due to what he has called "incredible amount of protest.

For most Penn students, a $30 meal at Brasserie Perrier is a bargain. But the same price for a meal at local eatery Nan? It just doesn't quite have the same appeal. Starting this Thursday, 21 West Philadelphia restaurants are offering multi-course menus for $30 or less during the third-annual University City Dining Days.

THEFT Dec. 3 - A victim unaffiliated with the University reported that his driver's side door lock was damaged and various CDs and books were removed from the vehicle. The incident occurred before 11:30 a.m. at the University City Sheraton garage. Dec. 4 - A student reported that his wallet was stolen from Stiteler Hall at about 6:00 p.

A Penn student will face reduced charges of simple assault after allegedly severing part of another student's ear with a beer bottle two months ago.

College junior Kathryn Lee left 30th Street Station just before dawn during Thanksgiving break. With the road only lit by street lamps, Lee said she and another female friend remained anxious during the walk back to school. "We were scared to walk back from the train station, so we debated about getting a cab," Lee said.
