Ochatto Hand Drawn Noodles, Japanese Cuisine, and Bubble Tea appears to be closed indefinitely, with no indication of whether it will reopen.
As of publication, the restaurant storefront — located on 36th and Chestnut streets — remains unstaffed during regular business hours and contains no signage indicating plans to reopen or announcing a permanent closure. The phone number listed on Ochatto's website is no longer in service, and the restaurant is now marked as "Permanently closed" on Google Maps.
Ochatto has yet to share information about its operating status publicly and did not respond to multiple attempts to comment.
The restaurant — once a popular BYO spot frequented by Penn students — was ordered to temporarily shut down in October 2024 by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health after inspectors cited nine violations of the Philadelphia Health Code, according to an inspection report published by the city.
Violations included blocked handwashing sinks, failure to provide parasite destruction records for sushi-grade fish, and evidence of pests throughout the facility. The report specifically noted the presence of live roaches, a dead mouse, and drain flies in various food preparation areas, along with the presence of "mouse droppings and debris" throughout the restaurant.
At the time, the Department of Health required Ochatto to correct the violations and undergo a reinspection before resuming operations. The restaurant was mandated to close for a minimum of 48 hours and pay a reinspection fee.
Ochatto has not undergone a city health inspection since October 2024.
In February 2025, Pod — a Japanese restaurant adjacent to campus and also popular among Penn students —permanently closed its doors.
