The Wistar Institute announced last week that Russel E. Kaufman, its President/CEO, will step down, effective March 2, 2015.
Dario C. Altieri, Wistar's Executive Vice President, will succeed as CEO while continuing to serve as director of the Wistar Institute's Cancer Center.
In a press release, Wistar said that the institute raised over $80 million during his tenure while helping to guide it through its current $35 million capital campaign.
“This has been one of the greatest jobs you could have,” Kaufman said in the release. “I’ve achieved everything I set out to do here when I joined this organization, and I am confident that Wistar is well positioned to achieve its mission. We have some of the most creative scientists enabled by state-of-the-art facilities.”
Alteri has served as the Institute's Chief Scientific Officer, helping raise Wistar's profile as a leader in biomedical research.
“We have the tools, we have the talent, and we have the model we need to conduct groundbreaking biomedical research that ultimately leads to new, more affordable treatments for cancer and other diseases worldwide," Alteri said in the release.
