Student loan defaults decrease in recent years

Recent findings show that the number of students defaulting on student loans has decreased in recent years.

Initiatives to help borrowers manage their funds and student debts may be contributing to this lower number of defaults. Despite the lower rates of default, however, they are still higher than they were in the pre-recession period. U.S. Secretary for Education Arne Duncan urges universities to provide education and counseling for their students about managing their debts and expenses.
