According to a survey done by the test preparation company Kaplan of over 400 admissions officers, 61% think that campus safety should be a factor in deciding US News rankings.
"US News has acknowledged how important an issue it is to prospective students, but maintains that comparing levels of safety among so many campuses isn’t possible, and even if it was possible, shouldn’t be factored into its academic-centered rankings," the press release states.
Penn fell to number eight in the rankings, which were released on September 8.
