To the Editor: I would seriously question the mentality of a supposedly intelligent individual submitting himself to acts of mental and physical degradation as a way to gain maturity. The tactics of many fraternities, in the name of fostering camaraderie, are nothing more than cheap thrills for the members. Fear of alienation ensures the conformity of impressionable pledges to allegedly noble ideals and values, while smug brothers share a collective hard-on at their ability to make freshmen do push-ups in their underwear. If you have any pride, you will say no to the abuse of hazing. These acts of immature brutality should neither be condoned nor perpetuated, but unfortunately, pitiful attitudes of pledges will do both. JIM DANIELS College '91 Former President Pi Lambda Phi
