LETTER: Gross Oversight

To the Editor: Both teams notched impressive wins. However, the football team's win was only stepping stone to a potential championship, while the women's field hockey team clinched such a championship. Unfortunately, many people did not witness the hockey game due to its early hour at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. However, this is no excuse for the DP's poor coverage of this monumental event. Wake up, DP! We are extremely disappointed at the DP's blatant disregard for the significance of the women's field hockey team's win. By shoving their article four pages in from the sports page, the DP has successfully marginalized the women's field hockey team's championship. Although the football team had not won the Ivies, the entire back page was devoted to their win. When they do win the Ivies, we would be pleased to see the football team celebrated on the back page -- heck, they can even have a whole insert if they want. But the DP should have, at least, granted the women's field hockey team the respect they deserve by matching their outstanding play with commensurate coverage. There is little to be done at this point to rectify the DP's gross oversight. We can only hope that in the future the DP will grant a full page laden with action photos on the back of the DP for each and every sports team that wins an Ivy League title.
