Favors are free at Campus Fest

There may be no such thing as a free lunch. But free food, free product samples and free games will be available at the Fourth Annual Campus Fest, which begins tomorrow. The two day festival, sponsored by the University Book Store, will be held at the Stiteler Hall-Graduate Education Plaza and features promotionals from over a dozen national companies. "Everyone at the University of Pennsylvania wins at Campus Fest," Marilynn Lewis, the store's merchandise manager, said yesterday. Store director Michael Knezic, who said this year's Campus Fest will be fundamentally the same as last year's, said he expects everyone to enjoy the event's carnival atmosphere. "It's more a festival than a promotional," Knezic said yesterday. "Every year [Campus Fest] has been well received by everyone." Cable company Home Box Office will celebrate its 20th year of programming at Campus Fest with a voter registration drive and a national sweepstakes awarding students trips to HBO concerts, boxing matches, and other events. Hyundai is sponsoring a sweepstakes with two Scoupe Turbo cars as grand prizes. American Express, Mennen, and the University Book Store will also hold prize drawings. Campus Fest is produced by MarketSource Corporation, a New Jersey marketing firm that represents several national product lines. The University Book Store uses MarketSource to obtain many of the products it sells, Knezic added. "MarketSource contacted us several years ago about becoming a sponsor for Campus Fest and we decided to become a sponsor because it is both a good promotional and a lot of fun for all those involved," Knezic said. "Campus Fest provides a nice break from the hectic atmosphere at the beginning of the semester." Campus Fest will take place Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free food and beverages will be provided by many companies including Hershey, Kellogg's, Nutrasweet and Orangina. Microsoft Software will be among those with information booths presenting demonstrations.
