William Steinberg was travelling in Costa Rica with his family when the small, single-engine plane that they were on crashed into a mountain in the Guancaste province, killing everyone on board.

The Rockets shot a season high 64.3 percent from beyond the arc, marching to an 85-73 victory over the Quakers. The loss snaps the Quakers (9-5) four-game winning streak, dating back to December 4. 

The win captured the NJIT Highlanders Christmas Tournament for the Quakers (6-4), who outscored opponents 159-90 across the two-game competition. Both games set new season records for margin of victory, and Parker earned tournament MVP honors. 

NEWARK, N.J. — It was all Quakers, all night long. Dominating from the beginning on both sides of the ball, Penn women’s basketball soundly defeated Virginia Commonwealth, 82-52, on Thursday night in the NJIT Highlanders Christmas tournament.

In Penn’s first home game in 39 days — and first game at all in 18 days — the Red and Blue showed absolutely no signs of rust against non-conference foe Delaware State. Boosted by an incredible 51.9 percent effort from three-point range, the Quakers set the school record for margin of victory against a Division I opponent, blowing out the Hornets, 105-52, for their fourth straight win.

This comes after a rough start to Torgerson's career in the NFL. Penn’s star quarterback was cut by the Washington Redskins just a month after signing for their practice squad in September. 

For the second straight week, Penn women's basketball's Eleah Parker was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Parker is the first Quaker to earn the award in consecutive weeks since current senior Michelle Nwokedi took home four straight during the 2014-2015 season.

While Penn wasn’t the only Ivy League university that became more competitive this year, it experienced the largest relative decline in percentage of students accepted.  

Larry Wittig, a longtime rowing coach who rose to a top leadership role in the Pennsylvania education system, resigned from his position as chair of the state Board of Education this week after multiple women accused him of sexual misconduct.

It took them eight games, but they’re finally hitting their stride.  On Friday, Penn women’s basketball began the next phase of its season with a dominant 84-66 victory over Rhode Island at the Palestra just one day after the end of final exams.

The final bill omitted a tax on graduate student waivers, which experts predicted would have hiked student fees by up to 300 percent. 

Watson was invited to compete in the 93rd East-West Shrine Game, an annual all-star game featuring top college players from schools in the Eastern US and the Western US.

Finishing with four consecutive victories, Penn football was rolling at the end of the 2017 season. And now, the time to look ahead to 2018 is officially here.
