College House Families

Utsav Schurmans and his family are one of several “college house families” who call Penn’s college dormitories their permanent home. Living in a college house — and, for the children, growing up in one — is as normal and as “uniquely Penn” as one might expect it to be.

The Latest

About 25 percent of this year’s incoming School of Veterinary Medicine class consists of students over the age of 25, according to the school’s admissions office. At the Perelman School of Medicine, more than 60 percent of incoming students over the past two years were non-traditional.

Endowment returns 2011-12

On the heels of Penn reporting a 1.6-percent investment return in FY 2012, Harvard University announced an investment loss of 0.05 percent. In contrast, Yale University posted a 4.7-percent return, ending FY 2012 with an endowment of $19.3 billion.

Mariposa Food Co-op

The Mariposa Food Co-op has taken flight as one of West Philadelphia’s only neighborhood grocery stores offering sustainable food. Mariposa’s sales have more than tripled since it moved to a new retail space at 4824 Baltimore Avenue from 4726 Baltimore Avenue this past March.
