After missing out on a bid to the National Invitational Tournament, the Quakers will host a game in the College Basketball Invitational, Wednesday against Quinnipiac at the Palestra.

Unlike many other schools against whom they competed, Penn (3-5) was just starting their season and dropped their first three games before breaking their fall.

The squad finished fourth overall in the tournament held at Princeton’s Jadwin Gymnasium on March 3-4 and will send five wrestlers to the NCAA Championships this weekend in St. Louis.

Men’s and women’s fencing teams took on a draining NCAA Regional Tournament Saturday, but came out with 10 fencers headed to the NCAA Championships.

The Red and Blue finished with a score of 191.650, a total that is just a point less than their Ivy Classic-winning score from February 26. Bridgeport, a program ranked second among Division II teams, took second place in the tri-meet with a total score of 192.950, and host team Maryland was well ahead with 195.075.

After notching its first win of the season, a 10-6 victory over then No. 8 North Carolina, Penn men’s lacrosse let Villanova slip away in an 8-7 loss Saturday at Franklin Field.

After going down early and often in their first five games, the Quakers went on a six-game winning streak, which included a win over Sacred Heart, a team that had qualified for last year’s NCAA tournament.

For Penn squash teams, the best players didn’t necessarily have the best individual championships.

The men’s swimming and diving team ended its seasons with a disappointing sixth-place finish at Ivy championships.

Overall, the men’s team (7-3) played well and showed an ability to fight through adverse conditions. The women’s team looked confident in their two matches over the break.

The sophomore finished at 2.20 meters in Nampa, Idaho, on Saturday, and his eighth-place finish was good enough to guarantee him All-America status for the second time in his young career.

After falling to No. 2 North Carolina on Mar. 3, 15-6, the Quakers defeated Rutgers, 15-7, and Harvard, 14-13, in overtime.

There will be no Ivy playoff, no cutting down the nets, no ‘Selection Sunday’ anticipation and no NCAA Tournament hopes.

Maalik Reynolds won the indoor Ivy League Championships and will compete at the NCAA Championships on March 10-11.
