Over 70 degrees and sunny - students could not have asked for better weather as they celebrated this year's Spring Fling. The beautiful weather helped make Spring Fling a success, as students gravitated to the open-air festivities in the Quadrangle, the Fling concert Friday night and the Carnival on College Green Saturday night.

Guster and Akon may have shared the stage Friday night but many students expressed more excitement about Akon. The Social Planning and Events Committee brought together musicians Akon and Guster in what many students considered an unusual mix for Friday's Spring Fling Concert.

Maryland was nearly an hour late arriving to Franklin Field Saturday, but when the final whistle blew it was the Quakers who never showed up. Penn was going for its first win ever against the Terrapins (whose bus driver took a wrong turn, hence the delay).

After 34 seasons of unprecedented success as the coach of Penn men's and women's fencing, Hall of Famer Dave Micahnik has announced his retirement from the program, according to a Penn Athletics press release earlier today. Micahnik's official announcement was made at the fencing team banquet last night at the Inn at Penn.

As high-school seniors choose between colleges this month, accepted students' days have played a major role in the decision-making process. Dean of Admissions Eric Furda described Penn Previews as "an anchor" in the admissions recruiting program because it is the University's main way of attracting accepted seniors to Penn.

Because positions at large financial firms and corporations are more competitive in the present economy, many students are seeking positions at smaller businesses. "The economy is challenging for internships," Wharton Entrepreneurial Programs Managing Director Emily Cieri said.

Diagnosed as the cause of death for over 8,000 Americans annually, oral cancer is a disease that rarely garners the attention it deserves. But this year, Penn Dental School students are raising awareness with the first Oral Cancer Walk Philadelphia. Organized by the Oral Cancer Awareness Society, the walk is to be held tomorrow - regardless of weather conditions - beginning at 10 a.

Next Year, the Undergraduate Assembly and the Civic House Associates Coalition are making New Student Orientation more civic-minded. The UA's Civic and Community Engagement committee is introducing five new proseminars - courses taken by incoming freshmen during NSO for no credit - that will focus on community service and civic involvement.

With their twelfth win of the season under their belts and at least a share of the Ivy title, the Quakers' mission is nearly complete. The No. 3 Penn women's lacrosse team (12-0, 6-0 Ivy) has only one game left to secure the outright league championship and, as an added benefit, prevent rival Princeton from grabbing a share of the title.

If Bradley Inman is right, books will no longer be just printed words, but will involve videos supplementing the storyline, characters "tweeting" away their thoughts online and readers collaborating and revising the original story. Inman is the man behind the "Vook," an e-book platform that wraps text, video, and social networking together into one package.

Though the softball season is quickly coming to a close, two Ivy League rivals are heading into this weekend still hungry to prove why they deserve to be atop the South Division. Penn (9-24-1, 4-8 Ivy) will hope to sweep Princeton (13-15, 7-5) in a weekend of twin doubleheaders that start tomorrow at 12:30 on Warren Field.

As the school year comes to a close, students with 12-month leases for their rooms are faced with a challenge: finding summer subletters. For those seekers, the economic crisis seems to add an extra burden to an already-difficult task. College junior Michael Kleinman is actively looking for a student to summer sublet a room in his house.

Of the 32 U.S. universities in the middle of capital campaigns of at least $1 billion, Penn gained the most in February with $26.1 million in new gifts and pledges. Though this is not the most Penn has received in a single month - that record belongs to June 2007, when the school took in $129 million just before the Making History capital campaign entered its public-fundraising phase - the number is strong given the current economy.

With just two Ivy League matches left, Jonathan Boym and the men's tennis team are having a hard time figuring out exactly how their season slipped away. "I don't know if one particular thing went wrong this season; I don't know," Boym repeated. Maybe it was "just a couple of bad breaks.

This is the last chance for the women's tennis team. As the Quakers close their 2009 season with matches against Columbia and Cornell this weekend, the Quakers will try to avoid a winless Ivy League season, in sole senior and team captain Lauren Sadaka's last weekend wearing the red and blue.

We entered the room ready to learn, as we always do. But this was no ordinary class, you see. As the sun began to set on the chilly Sunday evening, the group - half Penn students, half Dalits, or India's "untouchables" - carried flowers and refreshments. Then class began.
