College junior and Mask and Wig club member RJ Wynn looks out at the crowd gathered on the lower Quad during a concert by the Mask and Wig Band on Saturday.

Over 70 degrees and sunny - students could not have asked for better weather as they celebrated this year's Spring Fling.

The beautiful weather helped make Spring Fling a success, as students gravitated to the open-air festivities in the Quadrangle, the Fling concert Friday night and the Carnival on College Green Saturday night.

And the Social Planning and Events Committee co-directors for Fling were thrilled with the outcome of almost a year's hard work.

"People were truly excited for Fling, for the weather and for the end of the year," Spring Fling co-director and College junior George Stein said.

"It was truly the first nice day we have had this year."

In contrast to last year's Fling, the event took place a week later, increasing the odds for warmer weather.

The high temperatures also enticed students to participate in the outdoor activities, decreasing the prevalence of in-room drinking and making the job of Fling Safe and the Medical Emergency Response Team easier.

Students lined up to take turns at booths like the human bowling activity Hi Ball and partner Gladiator Joust or to knock out one of the student leaders sitting in Chi Omega Sorority's charity dunk tank.

"We couldn't have been happier with the turnout," co-director and College sophomore Jayme Van Oot said.

The SPEC co-directors estimated that a few thousand students attended the Carnival Saturday night on College Green.

The 2,000 bottles of water SPEC provided ran out in the first hour, while the Pat's cheese steaks, Chipotle burritos and thousands of sandwiches offered dwindled shortly thereafter.

Also highly attended was the Capogiro Gelato stand.

Stein said his memorable moment was just before the Mask and Wig show, a highly popular Fling event in which SPEC invests considerable planning.

"The Quad looked full from ground level but on stage - there were so many people, many compressed against the bike racks, that it put into perspective both how many people actually fit into the Quad, but also the attendance," he said.

Following the packed performances of the Strictly Funk and Penn Six a cappella groups, the Mask and Wig show served as a finale for the events in the Quad as Fling weekend wound down.

College junior and Fling co-director Amber Calloway stressed that the time spent planning the event was ultimately worth it.

"It was lot of hard work, a lot of hard preparation but definitely a labor of love," she said smiling.

After a weekend of beautiful weather, cheese steaks and fried Oreos and way too much fun, students now only have a return to reality to look forward to.
