Wharton Online launched a new four-course certificate program on Thursday focused on digital strategy and artificial intelligence.

The Digital Strategy in the Era of AI Certificate, announced on April 9, is a fully online, self-paced program designed for professionals to “navigate digital disruption, evaluate where AI creates real value, and lead transformation with strategic clarity.” The program is structured as a four-course sequence spanning digital disruption, organizational leadership, AI strategy, and innovation.

“This certificate reflects what we hear consistently from organizations and leaders right now,” Eric Hamberger, the managing director of Wharton Online, wrote to The Daily Pennsylvanian. “The challenge isn’t access to AI tools, it’s knowing how to use them in ways that drive true strategic value.”

The program draws on “decades” of research at the Wharton School, emphasizing strategic decision making and organizational execution, according to the press release.

Academic director of the program, Rahul Kapoor, wrote that organizations “are under pressure to act on digital and AI opportunities before the path forward is fully clear.”

“This certificate is designed to help leaders make better strategic choices in that environment – understanding where disruption is coming from, where AI creates value, and how to translate insight into action inside real organizations,” he added.

The program’s four courses are delivered asynchronously, including faculty-led video lectures and applied exercises.

According to the certificate’s program materials, participants will learn to assess where AI “can — and cannot — create competitive advantage,” determine when automation should complement human expertise, and evaluate risks like bias and data limitations.

“Most leaders are being asked to act before the path is fully clear, and this program is designed to help them make better decisions about where to invest, how to prioritize, and how to move forward with more clarity and discipline,” Hamberger wrote to the DP.

In February, Wharton Online announced its Entrepreneurship Certificate. In November 2025, the platform launched a certificate on innovation strategy and design thinking.
