Penn President Larry Jameson addressed a Dec. 13 active-shooter incident at Brown University in a Sunday email to the University community.

In a Dec. 14 email, Jameson wrote that Penn’s leadership has closely followed the situation at Brown, adding that the specific details of the incident are still emerging. He emphasized that resources for community support and wellness are available on campus.

“I was devastated to learn of the tragic shooting on the Brown University campus last night,” Jameson wrote. “While details are still evolving, our hearts go out to their entire community during this profoundly difficult time.”

According to an email sent to the Brown community, the shooting — which took place between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday — killed at least two students and injured nine others. A person of interest was detained earlier Sunday morning, according to Providence Police Department Chief Oscar Perez.

In a Saturday evening statement to The Daily Pennsylvanian, Penn’s Division of Public Safety said they have “increased” their police presence on campus and “are actively monitoring the still unfolding situation.”

Jameson concluded the email with a reminder of “how precious our community is.”

“Please take care of yourselves and look after one another,” he wrote.
