This Weekend: Radio-star debuts in Center City

Ira Glass has been labeled by Time Magazine as the "best radio host in America." And tomorrow night he will be making his Philadelphia debut at the Kimmel Center in Center City.

Holding this event at the Kimmel Center will be a huge factor in accomplishing one of the Kimmel Center's missions: bringing renowned artists to perform in Philadelphia.

According to director of programming at the Kimmel Center Tom Warner, "Ira Glass's . storytelling is so unique in today's world and so well respected that it would make complete sense for us to invite him to the Kimmel Center."

He added, "The Kimmel Center is grateful to be in a position to offer such artists to Philly audiences . [Glass] enjoys widespread recognition and respect in this area and . audiences here deserve to see the best right in their own town."

Attending this event allows viewers to witness the workings of one of the most distinguished minds in the media world. After being part of public radio for over 30 years, one of Glass' accolades includes an award as the host and producer of This American Life.

Glass' ability to create humor and drama in everyday events has attracted so many people to the Kimmel Center that there are not that many tickets left for purchase and only a limited number of rush tickets are available for students.

The Kimmel Center has been planning this event for nearly a year, having first spotted Glass during a solo act, similar to what he will be performing this Saturday.

Typically the Kimmel Center hosts a variety of musical and dance performances throughout the year, but Glass' show will be unique because he will display skills that enabled him to reinvent the radio and change the media in today's world.

"An evening with Ira Glass" will be held at the Kimmel Center at 8 p.m. tomorrow night.
