The South Street Bridge will close for repairs on Dec. 8, according to Vice President for Public Safety Maureen Rush.
The bridge will remain closed for the next two years while a new bridge is being built.
All traffic across the bridge will be diverted to Walnut and Chestnut streets.
The bridge's closure is expected to cause major changes in traffic patterns in University City.
