Sick and tired of boring burgers? Try the newest burger joint on campus: Top This.
The new restaurant opened in 1920 Commons earlier this week. Top This replaced Chick-Fil-A, which closed at the end of last semester after several years on campus.
According to Business Services spokeswoman Barbara Lea-Kruger, Penn Dining created Top This in response to a survey taken last spring and ongoing student feedback indicating that "Chick-Fil-A was just not popular," and students "would like to see something different."
The survey feedback suggested that students wanted more individualized dining options and that many would be interested in a place that concentrated on burgers and fries, added Lea-Kruger.
Top This - which, according to Lea-Kruger, "provides more flexibility than a national brand" - offers students a choice of beef, turkey, vegetarian or "double the protein" patties with a variety of toppings. The facility also serves curly or sweet potato fries with an assortment of seasonings.
So far, students have had mixed reactions toward the new facility.
Engineering sophomore Matthew Byrne said that service was "slow" but that the food was "better than Blaze." Engineering sophomore Ivan Levcovitz added that "the burgers were good, but the fries sucked."
However, officials have high hopes for the new burger joint.
"Because the concept was created as a result of student input, we anticipate that Top This will be successful," Lea-Kruger said.
