College junior Meredith Jones, 21, was arrested early Friday morning at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania after she allegedly assaulted a female hospital employee during treatment, Division of Public Safety officials said.
The incident took place at about 2:30 a.m.
Police arrested Jones, of the 4000 block of Sansom St., and charged her with aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. She has been released on $2,000 bail.
Jones' preliminary hearing, where a judge will decide whether to send the case to trial, is scheduled for Thursday morning.
University spokeswoman Lori Doyle did not return a call to her cell phone for comment last night.
In an unrelated incident, a female, unaffiliated with the University, reported that she was assaulted on the 4000 block of Chestnut St. on Friday at about 8 a.m.
While standing on the street, an unknown suspect approached the complainant and struck her with a closed fist. Police are currently investigating the incident.
