News brief: Penn ranks 2nd for international scholars

Penn ranked second last year among universities for hosting international scholars, according to an Institute for International Education report released Nov. 13.

Harvard University ranked first, while Stanford University was third.

Penn was ranked sixth last year.

In the same report, Penn ranked seventh in study-abroad participants, up from 12th the year before and higher than any other Ivy League school.

Penn was ranked 14th in enrollment of international students, the same as last year.

The University dropped to third among Ivy League schools as Cornell University jumped from 24th place last year to 13th this year.

The Institute of International Education is a non-profit educational and cultural-exchange organization in the United States.

The institute has conducted an annual statistical survey of the international students in the United States, with support from the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, since the early 1970s.

The census is based on a survey of close to 3,000 accredited U.S. institutions.
