News brief: No Rhodes scholars at Penn this year

Correction appended

The 2007 Rhodes scholars were announced on Friday - and Penn students are conspicuously absent from the list.

This year's 32 American recipients come from a variety of universities nationwide. Harvard University leads the pack with six recipients. Yale University has four this year.

Penn produced one Rhodes scholar last year, Brett Shaheen, who planned on pursuing development studies, or the study of developing nations' economies.

In 2000, another Penn student won a Rhodes scholarship.

One of the world's most prestigious academic honors, Rhodes scholarships fund a year of study at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. The award has given scholarships to Americans since 1904.

Correction: This story incorrectly states that Rhodes scholarships fund one year of study at Oxford University. They actually fund two years.
